I have been growing for over 13 years. I grow with CFL's because they give me everything I need, simple as that. Bud density is as good as HPS, I know because I used HPS for almost 11 years before changing over when I moved house. We keep hearing this 'get yourself a HPS' line don't we?
What I will say is that CFL's work best with small heavily trained plants becasue they wont penetrate a canopy the way HPS will BUT you can get them MUCH closer couple of inches from the buds with no issues at all. I'd never go back to be honest, I'm happy with CFL's and what they can do and I have been smoking herb for over 30 years!
You can see my small 3 pot cabinet in my thread link below, thats ALL I grow in my house and it keeps me smoking happily every day of the year with those CFL's. I'll dig up a close of my CFL grown buds later to show the density you can achieve.
