I use super soil, chicken manure, perlite, vermiculite and bone meal. My boxes also have mulch that I pick up from our local landfill. If you do use mulch? It's very important to make sure it's not too hot, give it time and water before you place starts in. As for my mix, it's 4 to 1 on soil to manure. The perlite and vermiculite I use 1 large coffee can each per side on box, adding 1 lb of bone meal per side also. Hope this helps?
