The grow tip at the top isn't where you should cut unless you are trying to get a lower yield. I'm using sog method and trim off the bottom 1/3 of the plant before putting into flowering, 12/12 light cycle. the bottom branches wouldn't receive enough light to produce much anyway.
When I prune, I place all viable branches in water right away. Then plant the cuttings. VV
