Default Hydro Nutrient Challenge - Cruzer
There are ten contestants in this challenge.
We are all going to grow the same bud but with different nutrients and compare the results in the end. To see all contestants grow journals you can go to CC

I just thought I would copy it here for those of you who were interested.

Cruzer’s Stinky Widow Cindy Grow Journal

Date: 12-29-09

Genetic: Stinky Widow Cindy

Plant Age: dry seed

System: Cabinet SCROG Custom 3 point Drip system.

Grow Medium: Rapid Rooter plugs in rock wool placed in hydroton

Lighting Conditions Lighting: Veg with sunblaze 24” T-5 HO Lamp with three 5000K and one 3000K bulbs. Also 52 watts of LED in home made array.

Flower with 400W HPS hortilux bulb in a DIY cool tube. Contained Air flow supplied by an intake vent and a 4” 120 cfm duct booster exhaust outside.

Distance: 16” from screen. Screen bent in U shape to take advantage of light displacement. By the time they are done stretching light is 6 to 8 inches from buds.

Cycle: 24/7 veg and 12/12 flower 14/10 last week and 0/24 last day.

Environmental Conditions: This is a stealth cabinet grow. I can’t grow out back, it will get ripped off. I need my closet and I didn’t want to turn my living room into a green house so this was the next best thing. Cabinet is 72” tall 36” wide and 18” deep. There are two sections. I flower in 36” of the height and veg in 24” of it. The rest is filled with lights and water. My light is stationary in a DIY cool tube. It’s vented in from the room and out the back of the cabinet through a 4” 120cfm duct booster then out the window..

It’s winter here, I run my lights at night so daytime temps are my lows to work with, I keep thermostat at 80 degrees. Being a cabinet grow I exchange air quickly.
I am expecting about four ounces of dried and cured.

Temperature: Highs in the low 80s and lows in the low 60s

Humidity: I just can’t keep any humidity in the cabinet while the light is on.
Otherwise I get about 40%

Ventilation [out]: Upper 4” duct 70 cfm Lower 4” duct 45 cfm

Ventilation [in]: Upper 4” duct 70 cfm Lower 4” duct 45 cfm

Heater: submersible heater in the res, seedling mat and home made light box

Air Conditioner: none , makes it tough in the summer.

Odor Control: none as of yet. I have to decide if it is worth the extra noise the larger fan I would need would make.

Water Conditions: heater in res for winter, set at 70 degrees

H20 Type: distilled, I pick up a couple 5 gallon jugs a week

Reservoir Aeration: I got a 250 gallon pump in a 5 gallon res. in a drip system. This circulates the water so quickly I don’t think I need it. I do have air stones and a pump I use in the summer.

Reservoir Size: 4 gallon

Temperature: 70 degrees

pH: Kept between 5.7 and 6.5

TDS content [PPM]: around 500 PPM

Feeding Solution

Nutrient Solution: Veg: Flora Nova Grow
Nutrient Solution: Flower: Fox Farm Grow Big, Big Bloom and Tiger Bloom

Nutrient Levels: a little less than half that’s recommended

Additives: GH Floralicious Grow, Diamond nectar, Kool Bloom and Budswel Bat Guano
Additive Levels: a little less than half that’s recommended

Foliar Feed: Veg: GH Chi, Flower: Flora nectar sweetener

Plant Health / Stats I have had spider mite’s. T just removed everything and cleaned it out with water and bleach. That’s the only thing I can think of that will effect there health.

Plant Height: I am looking for 24 to 30” plants

Bud Density: In a SCROG I estimate thumb to golf ball size buds…. Several of them.

Trichome Production: TBD I would be interested in getting a uv light but not sure what would be best.

Internodes Spacing: If I can keep the temps within 15 degrees I assume this should be tight. We shall see.

Notes: Journal will be updated at least twice a week with pictures.

You may have noticed I am using GH flora series for vegging and Fox Farm for Flowering. I do this because I feel they get a better start with Floras nutrients but better taste with Organic Fox Farm when they are done. A little shot of kool bloom and there sweetener in the end hasn’t made a difference in taste. I will post the exact amounts once we get started.

So you can get a better idea here is a shot of my cabinet

I keep a perpetual grow going and harvest every two months.
No Mothers, I take cuttings from my females just before flower and veg them while I flower.
So, this will be a break in the routine. Add a little new blood so to speak.
I just took eight clones and dropped the seeds in water. The race is on.

I am starting with 10 seeds I plan on starting them in a glass of water overnight then into Rapid rooter plugs.

From there I will hand water them every other day until I see roots poking out the bottom of the plug. Then I will place them in rock wool cubes and dip them to feed.

The next step will be four inch pots with hydroton on the bottom placed in a fill and drain table, then out of those will be there first real transplant into the flower box Drip system. I will cut clones from them and sex them. Keeping the females and tossing all the males. Once I know I got all females I will flower them and start vegging the female clones for the next batch. I have found I do better the second time around but I will be happy to send everyone involved a sample when we are done in April.

Lets get started.

12/28/08

Plop

The sound of 10 seeds in R/O water.

Checked them the next day and they were all sinkers.
Got out the plugs and dropped one in each then broke off a piece and put it in the hole.

Here they are, well inside the rooter plugs. The ten in the front are the seeds and the eight in the back are the cuttings.

Temps 60 to 70s
Root zone 75 to 80 degrees
I will now put a dome on and mist it.

The lighting for the veg is the led at first

Then I will use the T5 HO

Update in a few days
