a screw-on lid suffer from the limitation that you need a good grip on the lid to close it off well and most of these lids are made from soft aluminum, and this gives in over time if tightened to the limit. so a bit high like you been or rheumatism or similar issue and you won't be able to close these up.

not so with clamp ones, everyone can get them close, there is always a way. they seal tight and the do so over time too. thats the reason why this jar type is still often used in labs
