I tried doin my first with just one 60w grolux... It turned out to have like 10 leaves total on the whole plant at a foot tall. And I'm not counting SETS of leaves either, I'm talkin every single leaf! Needless to say i learned my lessson with that one.
It's not too late to invest in a hps!!!!
