great cheapie filter, I can see why this is done for those not mechanicaly or crafty to build others.

I have to point out that crushing and "washing" activated carbon does nothing for increasing life. The surface area is the microscopic pores in the material that were created by the technique of making this stuff.

The pet carbon is liquid phase and will not last as long as the vapor phase stuff you have to buy elsewhere.

Nice post though, this was much better than a couple of the other crappy ones I see people make.
