Yeah, we can thank William Randolph Hearst and Harry (that lieing son-of-a-bitch) Anslinger, plus a few others.
What really pisses me off is that both the Brittish and the U.S. governments have done studies (real, in depth, scientific, studies) that show marijuana to be virtually harmless to people; yet it remains illegal - go and figure! The main reasons marijuana first became illegal were Economic and Social. Economic because of feared competition with "Big Business" and Social because certain ethnic minority groups were "easy prey" in that (hopefully by-gone) prejudiced era. It had abso-fuckin'-lutely nothing to do with legitemate medical or psychological concerns (still doesn't as far as I know!). Why marijuana remains illegal is another story - one that is way beyond my humble ability to understand!
To get the whole story, it is really worth a few hours of research, it will really blow your mind!
