It's true that he officially opposed drilling in ANWAR. It is NOT true that he officially changed his position on ANWAR. In fact, McCain has taken a LOT of flack from the right precisely because he is perceived as unwilling to extend his new found desire to expand all domestic exploration & drilling to include ANWAR.

If Bill Clinton had not vetoed the exploration of ANWAR in 1995, we would be getting better than one million barrels of crude oil out of ANWAR today. Perhaps he can be forgiven because gasoline was around $1.20 a gallon back then.
