For me, the American flag is a symbol that reminds me of the men that have bled and died defending what America is supposed to stand for.
I don't look at it as a solute to big government...or any kind of politics...just those poor soles that have fought their way through hell and came out the other side and planted our flag in the ground...thats what I solute when I recognize the flag...keep that in mind the next time you run down someone for placing their hand over their heart and saying the pledge of allegiance.
Too many people today go around acting like they hate this country, when what they really hate is what the government has become. This country is more than just big government, they just need to get back to basics and remember what it was all about in the beginning.
Saluting the flag is a state of mind, and my mind is on those boys over seas who are only doing what they were ordered to do!
